Course Overview
Police Scout Swimmer
Course
This course is designed for the department that has large
bodies of water within their jurisdiction. The course will teach officers how to
use the water as a means of infiltration in order to place surveillance teams or
other special teams into previously denied areas. Some of the topics covered
will be: swimmer assessment, choosing mission gear, waterproofing gear, surface
infiltration, and aquatic hazards.
Officers attending the course must pass a swimmer assessment consisting of a minimum of
300 meter swim, 30 minute water tread, and 30 meter sub-surface swim. If you
have any existing medical conditions, please bring a note from your physician
stating you will be able to perform to these standards.
Gear required:
Mask
Fins
Snorkel
Exposure suit
BDUs or similar tactical uniform
Load bearing equipment
Boots
Dive boots
Bug spray
Dive knife
Sun screen (SPF 15 or higher)
Ruck sack (or equivalent)
Compass
550 cord (for lanyards to tie off gear)
Gloves
Flash light
